Marshalling Information
Thanks for volunteering! ...the race can only run with the help of the volunteer marshalls, as it's something that most riders will only have to do once a season, we thought it'd be useful to have a page describing what's happening behind the scenes so that you know what's needed.
Marshalls should arrive, if possible, at Moreton village hall race HQ by 6pm for a quick safety briefing, and allocation of jobs.
Notes for the Marshall(s) on corner 1:
Please make sure there's a sign for drivers on each approach to the corner, and that the corner is swept clear of loose gravel and sand.
The marshall stands in the middle of the road as the riders approach, please give them a shout of all clear, keep in, or (rarely) stop! as appropriate.
Riders shouldn't cross the central white line as they approach the corner - but keep an eye for traffic approaching, and shout if there is a car.
After the race, please return all the signs to the box outside race control.
Notes for the Marshall(s) on corner 2:
Marshalls for corner 2 can park in the gateway beside the junction, but leave the track clear because it is an access to some holiday cottages, and people do sometimes go in and out, and the last thing you want is stationary traffic on that junction during a race! ;-)
Before the race, ensure that there are plenty of signs (at least 4) for southbound traffic, 1 or 2 for northbound traffic. Please also sweep the junction to remove stones, sand and other debris.
There needs to be 3 marshalls on corner 2 - one stands in the drive of the house and raises an arm each time riders appear, 5 fingers = group, 1 or 2 fingers for single riders/small group. Make sure the marshalls at the junction have seen you, as they pass the tree, drop your arm.
The two marshalls in the road can let any vehicles they can see when the arm is raised pass, but anything that comes into view after the arm is dropped should be requested to stop. 1 marshall can concentrate on this, while the other (usually Reuben) will watch for north bound traffic, and shout instructions to the riders.
After the race, please return signs to race control.
Notes for the marshall(s) on corner 3:
Please ensure that there's signs for northbound traffic before the turn, and one just beyond it, also one on the road from West Stafford. Please ensure the turn is swept so it's clear of debris.
Marshalls usually move to stand in the middle of the road that the riders are turning into so that they can advise cars not to turn right into the path of the riders, shout all clear / keep in as needed, and if possible advise cars not to approach the junction as the riders are coming round the corner.
